Humans. How tragically destructive we are. The only animal that kills for entertainment, the only animal who knows the word death, war, violence or torture. We are like wolves, as the wolf is the only animal that kills another animal just for vengeance. The divine is the work of God, and the human things are the work of humans. We are the responsible of our circumstances, as we created them.
All the things I am writing are the only sense I found in this photo, as an animal couldn’t do that, torture. In the photo we see a person, Satar Jabar, who is being tortured. He is standing on a box, connected to a lot of cables. When I see it, I think he must be feeling scared, thinking he is going to die, thinking that suffering could be his last emotion or thinking this prison could be the last thing he would see. He has a black bag on his head and it is covering his face, and he is wearing a dark Arab tunic. The cables must be connected in different parts of his body, like the penis. His arms and hands are opened, and his form says he is stopped in this position. The people who tortured him must have said that if he moved and went out, he would be electrocuted. Behind him there is a wall with eight plumbs and tiles. The plumbs are a little to the right, and the cables are going to them, so the cables must be from them. In the box is printed V2. The floor and the place are very dirty.
This photo brings me only sadness, as we can’t be so miserable, and for what? For a nation? For a religion? For an ideology? If there exists a God who created the heaven and the earth, this was the last thing that he could want. If we don’t want this to happen, we have to open our closed minds, and love each other, love everybody. Everything. As we have the most beautiful thing in the universe: our life.
“And in the end, we were all just humans… drunk on the idea that love, only love, could heal our brokenness”
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
